NUMBER 5: 2009 Apple MacBook

The 2009 Apple MacBook may not come to mind when first thinking of a cheap project laptop for you to use at school, and the occasional gaming. It usually comes with a Core 2 Duo, which is an x64 processor, so you can run modern tasks on it. The speed can range from 2GHz to 2.4GHz, which means its still usable if you're going to use it for homework and some YouTube watching. You can also upgrade the RAM, as it uses DDR3 Laptop RAM, and can support up to 8GB of RAM, which should be more than enough to run a YouTube video, and Word for Homework. But you may be wondering, how do you use Word on a MacBook? Well, you need to know what to do, which is upgrade to an SSD, and since it doesn't use any Apple specific hardware, you can also install Windows here on my guide: How To Install Windows On An SSD!

Number 4: ASUS X200ca

Once again, I have never worked on one, yet from what I can understand, it also seems decent for the pricing. Whilst it may seem on the more expensive side, you also get decent performance. For example, for £80, you can get a laptop with an Intel Celeron, a RAM upgrade, and an SSD. Looking at it online, seems fairly decent, but slightly overpriced for the performance. The good side to this laptop is how its easy to repair, but at the cost of performance. Overall, a great laptop if you want to start working on laptops as a beginner due to the repairability.

NUMBER 3: HP G Laptop Series

At number 3 I chose the HP G series laptops because whilst I don't know much about HP, I do know that old laptop with good specs are something to look out for. These laptops come in all different sizes and specs, but remember to follow the basic rule: Get the laptop with the newest CPU. For example, getting a 4th gen i3 isn't as good as getting a 3rd gen i5. Like always, since this laptop is of slight age, you may want to upgrade to an SSD and some RAM. Overall from my understanding, a reasonable laptop, nonetheless.

NUMBER 2: Dell Inspiron 15 5000 Series

The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop is a laptop I have worked on personally, and I have to say, its perhaps the most modern, easy to repair budget laptop. From my experience, its a fairly easy computer to work on, as you can replace the keyboard with ease, upgrading RAM and and an SSD can boost this laptop to become your new daily driver! In fact, after working on this laptop, it had some decent specs, and the only reason why its slow, is because they usually come with a HDD. So if you buy one of these, I would buy and SSD and read my guide on how to install an SSD. All in all, its a fairly repairable laptop, parts are cheap, but what I will say is, its not for the faint hearted. There can be issues which are communicated through the flashing light, and it can take time for you to finally get one into working condition. However, since they are newer, you can find one with something like a 4th Gen i5, and 8GB of RAM, which is decent if you spend £50 on it.

Number1: Lenovo ThinkPad

At 1st place, I put the ThinkPad. Now you may be wondering, why the ThinkPad? My reasoning is, from what I've seen, they are quite durable and can easily last 15 years if taken care of. Not to mention their convenient pricing for the specs. You can find many with a touchscreen and have insane specs for the pricing. We're talking 4th Gen i7 with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD upgrade all for a low price of just £60! Also, they are very easy to work on as many of then use the old fashioned laptop build, which is also how they get their extreme durability! All in all, a very good laptop, a bang for your buck, might I add! All most of these laptops may require is just an SSD and you could have a perfect budget, portable machine for under £100! A very wonderful machine, for a wonderful price.
